Transition training last night was really, really interesting (transitions from swim-to-bike (T1) and then bike-to-run (T2)). Big difference practicing transitions versus reading about it or watching them on YouTube. Like everything else, you need to do it to see how it feels.
Biggest thing I learned? I have to get elastic laces for my running shoes so I can slip into them after getting out of the bike shoes and head out for the run. I was neck and neck with guys in the group until it cam to putting on my running shoes. I was lacing up my first shoe when I saw Brad and Steve heading out (yep, they have elastic laces)! Tying your shoes takes a (relatively) long time! Other than shoe laces, I think the key is laying out your stuff in the right order and doing it methodically – not rush. In the end, “slow and steady” seemed to work fastest for me.
The surf trip to Nicaragua is fast approaching. We leave this Saturday and tonight is “packing night” – not that there really is that much you have to pack for a surf trip! I sure hope this triathlon swimming improves my paddling ability…
